Peggy Brightman studied choreography with Coralie Hinkley, Martha Coleman Myers, Louis Horst, Bessie Schoenberg, and Murray Louis. She has been a professional choreographer since 1976, creating a large body of work for three of her own dance companies--Massachusetts Dance Ensemble, Choreo, Inc., and Moving Spirit Dancers, as well as work for other companies, including Concert Dance Company of Boston, Tanztheatre of Stuttgart, and the Amherst Ballet.
She has choreographed productions of Carmina Burana and The Fantasticks, and many multi-media performances in partnership with composers and visual artists from NEWCOMP (New England Computer Arts Association.) Recently Peg staged a Barnarts production of Porgy and Bess.
Peg has created many dances for performance in theatres, art galleries, community centers, and sacred spaces ( in over twenty different churches, community centers, and theaters in New England,) often to live vocal music. Peg's work with Moving Spirit Dancers, a multi-generational dance company, was celebrated in MPBN's Incredible Maine, in 2009.
Currently, Peg is artistic director of the Upper Valley area dancer ensemble, Moving Spirit - VERMONT. They perform on a regular basis at the North Universalist Chapel Society in Woodstock, as well as at other venues. Peg collaborated with area composer Sarah Saul to create the choreography for her original Oratorio -- The First Seven Days. The cast included singers, dancers, children and puppets by Wayne Thompson, with performances in 2015 and 2016.
