"Signs From Earth" rehearsal at the North Universalist Chapel Society for a Dec. 2013 dance service.
Peggy Brightman has been teaching dance since 1960 in a variety of settings, including
the Steffi Nossen School of Dance, Indiana Unversity, Radcliffe, Tufts, Columbia University, and abroad.
For ten year she directed the modern dance program at the Walnut Hill School for Performing Arts, Natick, MA, teaching modern dance technique, choreography, dance history, and repertory. Her students have performed with major dance companies, including the Merce Cunningham Company.
Peg's technique classes have their foundations in Humphrey-Weidman and Limon styles, influenced by her work with Bill Evans and Gregg Lizenberry and their expansive and dynamic approach.
While teaching at the Joy of Movement Center in Cambridge, Peg developed an integrated approach to teaching choreography, which she calls CHOREO LAB. CHOREO LAB combining the work of Rudolf Laban with the choreographic approaches developed by Doris Humphrey and Murray Louis. Her love and knowledge of music is a foundational piece of this work. Choreo Lab has been offered to adult dancers of all experience levels, in a variety of settings across New England, resulting in a body of new work, often performed for the public.
Currently Peg is teaching dance for teens and adults at the Woodstock Recreation Center, River St., in Woodstock, VT. Elementary/Intermediate Modern Dance classes are on-going on Tuesdays, 9:30-11 AM. CHOREO LAB ( Improvisation and the Art of Making Dances) will be offered periodically.
