It can be labor-intensive to get a class going. It's been two months now, and finally I seem to have a core of between 4 and 7 folks who have attended, or plan to come. It takes time to put down roots in a new community! It took me a couple of years, when I moved to Maine. Luckily, I'm persistent! ( LIke a sheepdog, trying to get all these sheep in the pen!!!)
In Brunswick, I heard a story of an older dance teacher, who kept on going, teaching in a church basement, ( at my church, which has since burned down) and they found her, after class; she had died with her dance shoes on! What a way to go!
What I love about teaching adults is that each is so different, with different background, world view, different perspectives. It's challenging to design a class that can fill the needs of all--and that's exciting. It's exciting to see people move--and transform themselves, so that is the built-in reward! Of course, dancing in itself is a reward -- but a tiring one, at this age!
